« Massana » was the first revolutionary in South Africa, one of the first peace soldier during the slave trade. In 1766, this slave, of Madagascan descent, organized a rebellion on board the slave ship where he was a captive.

This is only one out of hundreds of such stories, a story of an attempt of opposition during the journey on the sea at a time when the slave trade was widely developed. This Man’s courage was a huge inspiration for creating the musics of this album and it provides the album with a very particular aura.

Lead by a voice with a particularly touching tonality, BI.BA gives a reggae tinged with multiple influences, from the 70s Jamaican Roots to some Indian Ocean melodies. On his compositions, the singer uses his voice in a « Miantsa » way – a sort of lamentation- in some of the songs, but he also uses a more energetic and cheerful voice in other songs.

BI.BA produces his second album entitled “Massavana” together with the famous Spanish musician and composer Roberto Sãnchez.

It is a resolutely Roots project that unfolds the different sides of BI.BA’s universe. The themes of his texts deal with the hardships created by slavery, the system created by « babylone », racism between different peoples, but it also deals with more positive themes such as peace, freedom and love.

BI.BA’s singing and the Lone Ark Riddim Force musicians bring a roots and authentic colour to the album and remind us of albums such as those created by Dennis Brown, Bob Marley, Gregory Isaacs, Steel Pulse or the Meditations, but also Madagascan artists such as Dedesse and Salala.

Made up of 10 songs and 4 dub versions, this opus is pure pleasure for the senses. The mix of Roberto Sãnchez brings a vintage touch to this outstanding project. BI.BA’s music will certainly seduce you and carry you away.
