Drawing influences from the likes of Lauren Hill, Missy Elliott, Nas, Kanye West and Eminem, Cherri’s first music love was Hip-Hop. She later became infatuated with such Reggae artists as Capelton, Queen Ifrika and Chronixx. So there you have it-A Hip hop fire spitter and lover, Poetry mastRess and Reggae naturalist all rolled in one.

Referred to as the one and only “ReggaeRapStar!…Superstar!”, Cherri Poet proudly, respectfully and authentically fuses three genres with true grace and style. Grounded in Caribbean livity, she was born in Jamaica and raised by a Mother who was both school Principal & lover of theatre and poetry. Well-read individuals who kept Cherri focused on reading, writing and expanding her intellect which translates to conscious lyrics. When Cherri migrated to the US at the young & impressionable age of 8 she arrived in Philadelphia and immediately fell in love with Hip-hop and Rap. Cherri has taken her art far beyond the recording studio. She has performed at the Portland Curry Fest, Caribbean Heritage Festival and Culture Now Caribbean Festival in Philadelphia. She also was a headline performer at Almaz in Washington D.C., as well as several performances in Maryland alongside Reggae singer Prestige, Legendary Strykers Posse. She was also seen opening for Elephant Man in New Jersey, and more recently alongside Reggae artist Tuffest and Reggae legend Courtney Melody in Springfield, Md. An accomplished stage performer, songwriter poet and Hip-hop/reggae/rap recording artist, Cherri Poet excels at performing regardless of the medium.

To date, she has released three musical compositions, several music videos and a host of new singles. Cherri also is credited with composing the lyrics to the hit song “Sweet Summer Angel,” which hit the radio waves by storm as well as dance halls across internationally. Cherri’s exceptional musical talent has resulted in her appearing on many TV and Radio shows. She has performed alongside such artists as Macka Diamond, King Yellowman, Baby Cham,  Old school Rapper MC Lyte, Anthony Malvo,Gospel artist Yolanda Adams, Shady Records affiliate-Speed Child,  Lady G, Twins of twins and many more. Since releasing her albums Speak my calling and Eva Success, Cherri Poet has ventured into different arenas, which include her years as radio host of her own radio show “Cherri Poet’s HipReggaeHopsEvent” on Linkage Radio 101.5fm/Mt. Vernon, NY. She left radio in 2012 to host Joy Smiths “Music Vibration TV show”. That currently airs Sundays 4-5pm on Optimum ch. 68 and Verizon ch. 34 in the Bronx, NY.She released many singles along the way including “Tek mi lass $20” – Reggae herb tune on “Just high grade riddim; “And Still”- A tribute to the Haiti earthquake disaster survivors; which features Reggae Singer Hi Kee;  Christmas hip hop/Pop single “Ring the bells” for 2016; and New year 2017 self produced hip-hop tune and video “New year New Attitude“.
