Hailing from New York, Matisyahu first caught people’s attention as a Hasidic Jew performing reggae music with elements of hip hop, beatboxing, and rap. His first single, 2005’s “King Without A Crown” became a Top 40 hit and he proved with his debut album “Live at Stubbs,” that he was no novelty act or one hit wonder. With the success of this release and his follow up, “Youth”, both of which went Gold, he solidified is stature on both the reggae and pop music scenes. “Youth” was also nominated for a Grammy for Best Reggae Album, and his next, 2009’s “Light,” reached #1 on the Reggae Albums chart and stayed in the top spot for 34 weeks. His fourth studio album, “Spark Seeker,” also debuted at #1 on the Reggae charts. He then followed up with “Akeda” in 2014 and is now touring in support of his latest release, “Release The Bound,” which continues his evolution beyond the confines of reggae music and shows him to be an artist of incredible depth and talent.
