No Comments Latest Reggae News

VP RecordsRecord label VP Records has somewhat restored honour to the local music industry with the release of their 22nd edition of the Reggae Gold compilation album. The album is now No.1 on the Reggae Billboard chart, a spot occupied by foreigners over the last couple of weeks.

Reggae Gold features several reggae and dancehall acts, including Jah Cure, Busy Signal, Spice, Gyptian, and even Gully Bop, who is actually the only recording artiste to have two songs on the 20-track compilation.

VP Records also holds the No. 2 spot with the album’s twin project, Soca Gold 2015. Therefore, United Kingdom-based reggae singer Joss Stone, who held the No. 1 spot for three consecutive weeks, has been pushed down to the No.3 position.

Veteran recording artiste Carlene Davis also makes a triumphant return to the top 10 this week with her Dripping Blood album. The gospel album now sits at No. 6, one place ahead of Blue Dreamz by Collie Buddz.

TOp10 CUT

Other artistes who made the top 10 cut include Jah Cure, Morgan Heritage, Bob Marley and The Wailers, and Iration.

On the Billboard Hot 100 chart, OMI’s Cheerleader continues its steady decline as it now falls to No. 8 this week. Meanwhile, on a more positive note, Post To Be, by R&B singer Omarion, was recently certified platinum by the RIAA. This of course, is good news for Chakka Demus and Pliers who had their single, Murder She Wrote, sampled by the singer on the song. Post To Be is now spending its 37th week on the Billboard Hot 100.
