We are happy to announce the return of our reggae festival Jaharvestfest. Originally called Jelle’s Annual Harvest Festival, this was a 50th earthstrong party for our Reverend Mother Onatti Jellether first held in 1999 in the historic William McClatchy Park, in the Oak Park neighborhood in Sacramento, California. It was the first and only major reggae festival held in Sacramento’s Oak Park. The festival featured, the Congos, Foundation, Sugar Minott, Rankin’ Joe, Sandra Cross, the Meditations, Hurricane & Majestic, Sister I-Live, and Rankin’ Scroo & Ginger. DJs Spliff Skankin’ and Robert Rankin’ held down the selecta sounds along with two local dance companies. Over 3500 people came into the Oak Park community for a safe, fun filled day of music, dance and culture. It was a work of love and the festival energy reflected it. But because of other necessities we never got around to doing anymore. Our line-up was a crucial one then and still talked about today. Since then people have been asking when are we going to do the next one. All we could say is “at the right time”. Well, the right time has come! Thanks to Yusef White and Cecil Anderson, of Joseph White Presents, the backing and support for the festival was made available. Beginning this year the festival will be our annual salute to the beginning of the harvest season and our main fundraiser of the year. Our goal is to present a memorable event, and artists, in the tradition of the first JAHARVESTFEST. We will be at our new home, the San Joaquin Fairgrounds, in Stockton, California, for the foreseeable future. This is a family event, even though it is an unabashed salute and praise to InI holy herb. There will be a section of the festival area livicated to it. There will also be addresses by activists and spiritualist involved in freeing up InI holy Herb. Peter Tosh was the most stalwart and militant defender of InI Holy Herb, when he was alive. To that end we are very pleased to have his son and inheritor of his spirit TOSH 1, performing at this year’s festival. The other major focus of this festival is building community in the Rasta Way and consciousness. To that end InI are additionally pleased that Rasta Elder, Prof-I, will be addressing the community in attendance.. Another focus of InI is to present quality artists, old and new that folks don’t get to see often or ever. Our headliners are well known to the reggae massive and crossover audiences worldwide. Third World, and Sly & Robbie with the original Taxi Gang, are legends in reggae music, and we feel very lucky to be able to present them both with the other great artists joining us for this years event. Finally, this is a benefit for the Order Of Olufunmi, to fund the many community services we provide .
