AJ “Boots” Brown – The Voice of Two Major Brands including Third World.

Few artists embody the spirit of reggae quite like AJ “Boots” Brown. A gifted singer, songwriter, fine artist, and philanthropist, Brown has earned international recognition for his soulful voice, inspiring lyrics, and commitment to making a positive impact through music and community service.

Today, he carries on the legendary legacy of Third World as the band’s lead singer while continuing to build an impressive career of his own.

Reggae Festival Guide recently caught up with AJ to talk about joining one of reggae’s most iconic bands, his creative journey, and what’s next for both himself and Third World.

Q:  RFG – Are you satisfied with where you are at this stage of your career?
A:  AJ Brown – Yes, I am… It’s rare for an entertainer to be the face of two major brands…One as AJ BROWN the solo act and the other as the lead singer for Third World.

Q:   RFG – What keeps you involved in music after 40 years?
A:   AJ Brown –  I believe I’m fulfilling my purpose in life. (2) I regard getting paid to do what I love as a blessing so I share my talents with love and appreciation for these blessings. (3) Reggae music has become one of the favorite genres of music that the world listens…In the world of AI, live music has become more appealing and appreciated. (4) I’m a Reggae Ambassador for life, traveling the continents annually, sharing love and culture with all as I represent Jamaica.

BARITONE VIBRATION

Q:   RFG – Describe the A J Brown sound and approach to songwriting?
A:   AJ Brown – I would describe the AJ Brown sound as an earthy, baritone vibration that allows all who listen to feel and express their many emotions….As a songwriter, I work with producers whose riddims reflect the myriad ways Reggae music is being expressed and created…So, in essence, my songwriting approach is gecko-like in nature, camouflaging with the riddim to make it unique.

Q:  RFG – How different is A J Brown with Third World than the solo artist?
A:   AJ Brown – The Third World brand is older, has a much more extensive catalog of songs and global appeal than my AJ Brown    brand …From an image point of view, there’s more freedom of wardrobe choices with the Third World brand.

DANCEHALL BALL

Q:  RFG – Your “Dancehall Ball” single has video support. How is it coming on?
A: AJ Brown – Yes, “Dancehall Ball” has video support…The music video is ready for release.

Q:  RFG – What did you want the video for Dancehall Ball to depict?
A:   AJ Brown – Pageantry, revelry, good, clean fun.
