Kingston Jamaica The annual Montego Bay Jerk Festival, a calendar event for the last nine years in Montego Bay St James, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. Staged on Emancipation day, August 1st, at the Catherine Hall venue in the parish’s capital, the event has seen growth and tremendous success as a destination summer festival catering to both Jamaicans and visitors.
With the 10th anniversary staging set for this year, the organizers have seen it fit to expand the offering of the festival. Now called the MoBay Jerk and Food Festival; the event will take patrons on an epicurean journey, which demonstrates creativity and innovation in food and music. The events has also seen growth in other aspects as well.
“The Festival has seen tremendous growth over the past years with implementation of new activities, development on the Montego Bay Jerk Festival Foundation where we have given back to a selected charity after each staging as well as during the Christmas and back to school season. We see this as a necessary part of sharing our success with the community where we stage the festival, “ Joleine Longman, Public Relations Coordinator of the event shared
The organizers largely credit the support from the community as the reason for its success over the years as well as the activities that make the event interesting and unique. Activities include; marching bands, Jonkunu dancers, domino tournaments as well as a solid entertainment lineup. Additionally, the fact that the event is family centered, giving persons the chance to come out and enjoy a full day and night of activities, with kids and adults alike, make the festival a rare occasion in Jamaica in general.
“The patrons, our partners and our dedicated team is really what we credit our success to date. The citizens of Montego Bay have always supported us and we can’t thank them enough, we anticipate that this year will be no different as we celebrate 10 years, Patrons should come on out this year because it’s the celebration of our 10-year anniversary and we have a host of great things planned for them,” Longmore added
The event also assures patrons that the State of Emergency now in effect in the parish will not affect the staging of the festival. The event encountered the SOE last year and patrons were able to get to the festival and back home safely. The organizers actually encourage any method which aids in maintaining a safe city for the community.
With its commitment to the community, providing jobs and investing in the parish in general, The Mobay Jerk and Food Festival anticipates an excellent staging on August 1st at the Catherine Hall Commercial Complex inside of Montego Bay this year. This staging will also include performances from; Jah Cure, Shane E, Jada Kingdom, Beez Hive, Jabez, Joan Flemmings, Ity & Fancy Cat and much more. The organizers also promise additional features and offerings on the ground this year, as they celebrate a milestone in ten successful festival events.
