Lionzy is a new face of the modern sound of Africa. Creatively, a producer-driven fusion of Dancehall, Reggae, Hip Hop and traditional African music. Taking the pop culture of song and dance full circle back to the beginning with its roots that is firmly entrenched in Africa.
The genre is Afro Beat, Afro Pop. The sound that is about to sweep the world. The sound of a new generation. Lionzy is in that mix!
Samuel Boateng, known In Ghana showbiz circles as Lionzy, was born 15th March 1992 in the town of Breman Baako in the Central Region of Ghana, son of Richard and Ewudzi Esther Boateng.
Lionzy was educated at Saint Andrews Senior High. Under his nickname Black Lion he was engaged in Senior High Schools rap competitions which usually saw him out rapping anyone that engaged to challenge the young lion in verse, breakbeats or freestyle.
It was early 2006 when he decided to follow his passion for the performing arts and headed to fulfill his dream of entering the world of African show business.
Radio Rap Battles Competition promoted by Hope 99.9 FM at Breman Asikuma in Central Region, Ghana and hosted by DJ Track aka Obia Koefuom was the first taste of success when a young Lionzy made it to the finals and collected his first certificate in the music world.
Other live performances followed in Ghana’s Western North Sefwi, Ashanti Region, Kumasi, Cape Coast, Greater Accra, Takoradi, Tamale, Kpando and Volta.
Ahkan from Ruff n Smooth, a Ghana vocal outfit, realized that the boy had some potential that could take him far in the music industry.
The group provided mentorship, training, and guidance to Lionzy. Ibrahim Tanko Records, owned and operated by Lionzy’s brother, signed the Lucky Boys Music Gang (L.B.M.G) the upcoming Afro-Pop/Rap group to his label.
His one-off release entitled “Andaamu Make Money” also featured Ruff n Smooth duo and one of Ghana’s most trending actor, comedian, dancer, and musician Kojo Nkansah Lil Win. The track was produced by Citrus Beatz.
The summer of 2018 was the turning point for young Lionzy when a mutual friend living in Sweden introduced him to John Francis and DanceBEAT Records. A demo recording of an original song entitled “Sugar Sugar” was the driving force for a long-term management and recording contract with this internationally based music company.
Lionzy’s “Sugar Sugar” featuring Kay Strinkz (C2C) Odikro and Everclean (A4), produced by Owusad Nsaano, was given pre-release promotion in Accra and Kumasi during August 2018. The result was outstanding and the track is now scheduled for global release at the end of November this year.
