The Dances and Workshops of SNWMF 2017

In addition to lots of great music, SNWMF 2017 will also include numerous dance performances and workshops that will be fun and entertaining for everyone! All of the performances will take place during the day, both Saturday and Sunday. You can find the Solstice Stage on the vendor lawn next to the Dance Hall. This is in addition to tons of fun stuff in the Kids Zone.

Capoeira Agua De Beber
Based in Sacramento, they have been teaching and performing capoeira and related folkloric arts from Brazil since 2000. Capoeira is a fusion between martial arts, acrobatics, dance and music. Using kicks, dodges and steps, cartwheels, and spins, the players engage in a dialog of movement. The music is led by a single stringed instrument called the Berimbau. 

Daring Arts Movement
Daring Arts Movement (D.A.M) creates lively, colorful, multi-sensory, immersive experiences for our audiences and students; sparking wonder, awe, accessibility, and learning through the arts. In addition to their dance and stilt performances throughout the event they will be offering their StiltSkool to give festival-goers an opportunity to explore the art form themselves. Don’t miss your chance to try it out! 

Obsidian Butterfly & Sacred Fire Dance
Obsidian Butterfly and Sacred Fire Dance Company provides entertainment for events, parties, festivals, and corporate gatherings since 2003. Though our specialty is fire and LED Light entertainment, we offer many types of entertainment options from jugglers, stilt walkers, unicycle rider, snake handler, hoop dancers, to Polynesian fire shows, and Cirque entertainment . Our shows are engaging and memorable. Join us for a fantastical journey at Midnight on the Valley Stage Friday and Saturday Night.

Jambalaya
Jambalaya is a collective of cultural dancers, percussionists, and musicians that feature an energetic stage performance of dance music rooted in African, Brazilian, Caribbean, Mediterranean and Latin rhythms. Paul Gordon founded Jambalaya with the mission to celebrate cultural diversity around the world, and share the group’s message of love, harmony and tolerance. Join Jambalaya on the Village Stage on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

Bloco Elektro
Band director for Bloco Elektro Mike Scartezina had a vision. To create a Samba group that could rock house parties and shows. Bloco Elektro is a Nevada City based samba group with original arrangements. They play Samba Reggea, Batucada, 6/8, Samba Afro, Funk, Ijesha, Timbalada style. Its a roots tradition from Brazil to parade and rock the streets with just percussion and vocals. Look for them parading, playing stage shows, and rocking with the fire dancers.

Company of African Dance of Arcata
The Company of African Dance Arcata, choreographed and led by Christina McCabe is from Northern California. It is our honor to perform dances from Guinea, Senegal, and Mali. We strive to honor our teachers and reflect the love and passion we have for dance.
