‘Last Call’ is the new release from Chuck Foster of Catch Me Times Records. For his fifth solo album Chuck offers songs both topical and tropical. He draws on his early folk roots and his many years in reggae, combining elements of ska, roots, dub and dance with meditative melodies, activist lyrics and carefully considered inspiration for these troubled times. Longtime Reggae Update columnist for Beat Magazine, Chuck is the author of Roots Rock Reggae published by Billboard Books in 1999 and The Small Axe Guide To Rock Steady from Muzik Tree, new edition 2016) and is celebrating 20 years as host of Reggae Central on KPFK LA.
In 2012 he returned to his roots as a singer-songwriter with the release of his debut album ‘Perseverance’, swiftly followed by 2013’s ‘Make It Right’, 2015’s ‘Easy Street’ and, just last year, ‘Looks Like Trouble’–as well as the self-penned Various Artist set ‘We Roots’ and the well-received ‘Conscious Dub’, ‘Righteous Dub’ and ‘California Dubbin’’. He returns in 2017 with 15 original tunes for ‘Last Call’. For the first time this release contains a lyric booklet as well.
A great set of players including Soul Syndicate/Observer All Stars/Aggrovators guitarist Tony Chin, Jamaican keyboardist Tony Bird (among other credits he played on the Studio One classic “Freedom Blues” by Roy Richards), Rough Sounds stalwart Mike Irwin on bass, piano and melodica, UK/JA drummer Horseman, percussionist Lai Hee and multi-instrumentalist Rex Bailey on lead guitar, Hawaiian steel and ukelele bring a stripped-down roots sound to the music.
