Tullah Carter of ThirdWorld Music Group, a business manager and reggae consultant with over 35 years of experience in the music business, is set to receive an honorary award for her decades of work in reggae at the International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) at the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center (LPAC), in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on March 22.

BACKGROUND

Her love of music began at a very young age instilled by her grandmother, a native of Trinidad & Tobago, who gave the family a rich cultural background that included Calypso and Steel Drum music, which was considered West Indian Roots music.

As a teenager growing up in San Francisco during a time when the music scene was trend-setting, she spent time in the jazz clubs observing what was going on backstage in production. At 19-years-old, she interned for Motown Records in Hollywood in the Artist Relations Department for a summer and in later years she worked again at Motown/Gordy Company.

REGGAE

In the year 1989, reggae music caught her interest with the introduction of Jamaican artists performing in the San Francisco Bay Area. She saw a need for her assistance to promote and assist to produce shows.

She began managing bands, booked shows and arrange tours. As the co-producer of Out of Many One Productions in Oakland, California, a reggae production company, she co-produced many of the top-notch shows for the San Francisco Bay Area with favorite artists such as Culture, Joe Higgs, Sister Carol, Judy Mowatt, Freddy McGregor, Everton Blender, Mystic Revealers, the legend, Bunny Wailer, and many more. Out of Many One also co-produced the annual Peter Tosh Birthday Celebration Festival (1993 —  2018).

EXPERIENCE

In the following decades she worked as an event coordinator, artist liaison, publicist and immigration consultant with promoters including Reggae on the River, Ragga Muffins Festivals (former Bob Marley Days), 2B1 Festivals, Sierra Nevada World Music Festival, Rebel Salute and other international festivals.

Tullah has managed artists such as Tony Rebel, Queen Ifrica, Queen Omega, Sylvia Tella, Sister I-Live, and Junior Toots

She currently lives in Northern California specializing in artist representation/management, entertainment immigration and all things “Reggae.” She is an entrepreneur, facilitator and business manager. Her clients include multiple international reggae artists, from Jamaica to Europe, and Soca artists from Trinidad and Barbados.

She is sought out as an experienced visa consultant for foreign artists that want to perform in the USA. Third World Music Group is the U.S. sponsor for many of her clients. She also volunteers her time spinning reggae and world music on her weekly radio show “Island Fete” for Ozcat Radio, a non-profit entertainment company that broadcasts 24 hours/7 on 89.5 FM Station from Vallejo, California. Her DJ name is ‘Golden Lady’. She has been a board member for over 10 years.

Her works and contributions have been mentioned and acknowledged by Jeff Chang, music critic and cultural journalist, book released in 2005, “Can’t Stop Won’t Stop” and recently by Copeland Forbes’, former manager for Peter Tosh, book “Reggae My Life Is” released July 2022.
